Closing date for first consultation on the National Positive Ageing Strategy this Thursday

The closing date for written submissions to the Department of Health & Children on the National Positive Ageing Strategy is this Thursday 24th. The Strategy will set the strategic framework for future policies, programmes and services for older people in Ireland.

The preparation of the National Positive Ageing Strategy takes forward the commitment in the Programme for Government 2007-2012 to better recognise the position of older people in Irish society. The intention behind the Strategy is to put in place arrangements that would ensure that issues affecting older people are mainstreamed in policy-making at all levels and across all sectors. Another objective is to ensure coherence and integration in planning and implementing programmes for older people. Minister Brady welcomes views and comments of individuals (of any age), institutions, agencies, organisations and groups on any issue they consider of importance or relevant to older people.

Older & Bolder, the alliance of age organisations, will be running a public campaign this autumn to encourage people to contribute to the development of the National Positive Ageing Strategy. Visit the Older & Bolder website to sign their online petition in support of the State pension.
