Garda Community Safety Week focuses on 'Older People in the Community'

This week, September 21 to 27 is Garda Community Safety Week.

While the majority of people in our society will never suffer the experience of being a victim of serious crime, a fear of crime in itself can cause anxiety. It is important that we feel safe and secure both in and out of our homes. In this regard, the Gardai will be reminding you of the need to be aware of simple, effective ways to help prevent crime and to help lessen the fear of crime for yourself and in your community.

Gardai all over the country are hosting a number of Crime Prevention activities and events over the course of the week. These will include attendance at national events, meetings with community groups, visits to schools, Garda clinics (to provide information and advice) as well as high visibility patrols. There will also be a feature on the Crimecall programme on September 29.

To find out more, go to the Garda website

or contact the Crime Prevention Unit on (01) 666 3362.
