New short course in UCD - 'Working for Social Change for Older People'

The UCD Equality Studies Centre is inviting applications for a new short course Working for Social Change for Older People in Ireland which will commence in December 2009. This short course is aimed at exploring social change with a view to developing participants’ knowledge and skills in order to enhance the effectiveness of their actions to improve the quality of life for older people in Irish society.

The new course consists of two short integrated modules which will introduce students to the practice of equality-based action for social change:

  • Module one examines the context for social change action, equality issues for older people and how an equality-based framework can provide support for the implementation of social change at local and national level. It particularly focuses on the importance of inclusion of older people as equal partners and as advocates for older people’s issues.
  • Module two facilitates development of participants’ skills of being active agents of equality-related social change within their own community/organisation. Using an active learning approach, it provides participants with an opportunity for engagement with a social change action project.
