Physical activity

We know that regular physical activity enhances our health and that research proves that it can both prevent and alleviate the effects of many common illnesses.. We also know how easy it is to slip out of the habit of staying active, of getting regular walks or of keeping up that swim or game of golf or tennis.

But a recent Ipsos/MORI survey suggests that participation rates are starting to go back up again among older Irish people. More and more of us are starting to either take up something new or making an effort to keep going with something that we've been doing up to now.

Some activities that are health enhancing include things you can do on your own, for example, walking , gardening, swimming, and things you can do with a group, for example, bowling, tennis or dancing.

At Age & Opportunity, we are involved in two specific physical activity programmes: Go for Life and the Activity in Care Training Programme (ACT).
