Taking Stock

Course structure

Taking Stock provides men and women of 55 years and older the opportunity to explore the concept of positive ageing in a group session over a period of eight weeks. Taking Stock includes some of the aspects of Ageing with Confidence but has a stronger community emphasis, discussing locally available services and facilities. Although primarily aimed at the over 55s, the issues discussed might also be of interest to younger people.

Taking Stock aims to:

  • Provide opportunities to network and engage with other older people
  • Discuss some of the changes that can take place in older age
  • Provide information on subjects relevant to older people
  • Enable participants to make individual plans based on how they wish to live their lives.

Am I the right person?

The course is suitable for anyone who is interested in exploring their own ageing. No previous qualifications are necessary.

What does the course cover?

The course is delivered by one Facilitator trained by Age & Opportunity. Over eight weeks, the course explores: the importance of staying connected and in touch with family, friends and community; looking after physical and mental health; being a grandparent; and safety in the home. The final session of the course is an ‘open session’ and takes the form of a presentation on a topic of interest to the group.
