Workshops & Classes
Do you want to try something new?
What are the Arts Workshops and Classes?
Workshops which offer older people the chance to engage with literature, dance, the visual arts and music.
How does it work?
Each year we will pick a different art form. Last year we ran dance workshops in partnership with Dance Theatre Ireland. This autumn we are running writing workshops in partnership with the Irish Writers Centre.
Ever felt the need to write but never knew quite where to start? With a vibrant and varied selection to choose from, the ‘write’ way forward starts right here with this 10-week course: ‘Find your form’ with Eileen Casey, which starts on 17 September.
The course runs for 10 weeks and you can pick and mix from a selection of five segments, choosing all or just some of the courses. They come in pairs so why not kick off with a couple and see where that takes you or take the plunge and book all five at once?
How can I get involved?
Booking is via the Irish Writers Centre website. Use the arrows to scroll up and down to book courses, selecting one of the 5 segments or all 5.
Sign up for our email newsletter below and we will keep you uptodate on all our upcoming workshops and classes and all our arts initiatives.

We believe that, whether you are 8 or 80 years old, we all should have access and opportunities to attend and participate in the arts and to realise our creative potential. Fresh thinking, bold experimentation and creativity are all fundamental to delivering a high quality of life for older people.
Research shows that arts programmes involving music, visual arts and drama, among other activities, have a profound influence on the quality of life of older people, with positive impacts on health, psychological well-being, confidence and autonomy as well as other benefits such as:
- mental wellbeing
- reduced stress
- improved cognition
- sense of identity and personhood
- increased self-esteem and confidence
- reduced boredom.
