What is Ageing with Confidence?
Ageing with Confidence is a six week course for older people in local communities – designed to increase confidence, encouragereflection and share experiences.
How does it work?
The Ageing with Confidence course aims to increase levels of confidence in the individual by offering an experience of reflection and sharing and acquiring some information on optimal ageing. The initiative is based on an ethos of empowerment and mutual self-help among older people as well as promoting physical and mental health and social interaction.
Each session is delivered by a facilitator trained by Age & Opportunity and consists of information on aspects of ageing and runs over 6 half day sessions..
Topics covered include:
- Self-confidence and ageism
- Body/mind (the physical and psychological self)
- Feelings (the emotional self)
- Self-knowledge and stress
- The social and spiritual Self
- Ageing with confidence
How can I get involved?
The course is suitable for anyone who is interested in exploring their own ageing. It is not a therapeutic one and no previous qualifications are necessary.
It can be particularly beneficial for older people in general (50+), men’s shed groups and community groups. If you would like to arrange for a programme for your group, or find out about a programme in your area contact us.

What do participants say about the course?
My greatest learning was that life did not end just because you are retired. In fact, I now view retirement as a new beginning, where I can explore new possibilities, challenges, interests and dreams. The course has taught me that just because I am a pensioner, I am still in charge of my life and that all of us, no matter how old we are, deserve the best out of life.
