Creative Exchanges – Training for Activities Co-ordinators

Creative Exchanges is a seven week accredited training course for activities coordinators in care settings and people from an arts background with an interest in working with older people. It trains participants to plan and facilitate arts activities for older people. If you are an activities coordinator, working in a residential or day care setting or an artist interested in engaging with older people in a care setting, this course is for you.
Age & Opportunity’s Creative Exchanges programme is fully validated by QQI under the new common awards system at Level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
The course consists of seven full days, 10am-4pm each day, over a two-month period.
No prior qualifications are required, but an interest in arts and creativity or working with older people, as well as a commitment to attend the seven days training and undertake a significant amount of self-directed project work and study is essential.
Creative Exchanges will take place at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin over 7 full days, 10:00 to 16:00 from April – May 2020. Participants must attend all sessions in order to complete the programme.
Course Dates: Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd April, Thursday 30th April, Thursdays 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th May 2020.
Applicants should have:
- An interest in arts and creativity
- A willingness to do creative activities with older people
- Commitment to attend 7 full days training and undertake self-directed study and project work
A learner seeking entry to a programme leading to a level 6 award does not need a previous formal qualification. Learners may have achieved certification at level 5 (e.g. a FETAC level 5 certificate, component certificate or a significant range of subjects within the leaving certificate) or equivalent life/work experience
In order to complete the course it will be necessary to carry out a project with a group of older people in a day care or residential setting.
