Ever felt the need to write but never knew quite where to start? Whether it’s a case of seldom putting pen to paper or frequent flirtations between imagination and form, there’s never been a better time to explore different creative energies in a convivial setting. With a vibrant and varied selection to choose from, the ‘write’ way forward starts right here with this 10-week course!
Pick and mix from a selection of five segments, choosing all or just some of the courses. They come in pairs so why not kick off with a couple and see where that takes you or take the plunge and book all five at once? Booking details on the Irish Writers website here. Tues 17 Sept & Tues 24 Sept – Writing Fiction
In a land of storytellers, it’s a safe bet that everyone has a book in them! Here, you’ll be facilitated to tell your story in fictional form. Scale the heights of your imagination to find your inner teller of tales.
Tues 1 Oct & Tues 8 Oct – Short Story Writing
Although the form is short it takes skill and dedication to craft a superb short story. Learn how to use the various fictional elements to best effect.
Tues 15 Oct & Tues 22 Oct – Memoir & Essay Writing
Everyone has a story to tell and in this day and age we all appreciate the value of a life story well told. Learn about the subtle differences of the methods used, from memoir to essay writing, to get your message out there.
Tues 29 Oct & Tues 5 Nov – Poetry & Verse
We learnt at school that poetry paints a ‘pen picture’ of a scene so whether you want to compose a classical ode or just have fun with verse, this segment will give you plenty of reason to rhyme!
Tues 12 Nov – Playwriting
Give voice and colour to your cast of characters in the Playwriting segment. Dialogue is key together with creating contemporary dramas filled with atmosphere and mood.
Tues 19 Nov – Showcase
For those who want to showcase what they’ve written in the preceding weeks, we’ll have an Open Mic style showcase where you can sign up and have your creative voice heard and appreciated. But there’s no need to perform, just come along to enjoy the refreshments and performances!
Booking: limited availability remaining, please phone the Irish Writers Centre directly to book on 01 872 1302
