We want YOU to get involved in the arts and creativity this May
We are calling on people to organise their own Bealtaine Festival events around the country. The festival runs throughout the month of May every year. Bealtaine Festival is an Age & Opportunity initiative and is a celebration of the arts and creativity as we age.
The Bealtaine Festival programme will be announced in the coming months, but we want you to get involved and plan your own event to celebrate the arts, creativity and the world opening up.
We can’t wait to see what organisers around the country have planned for this year’s festival. Bealtaine is a national festival, and now more than ever we hope to see organisers big and small from every county join in.
Unusual exhibitions, provocative discussions, inventive performances – there are so many ways to celebrate the spirit of Bealtaine.
In 2022 we’ll be continuing to celebrate the theme of In(ter)dependence which we encourage all national organisers to consider while planning their events for May.
In(ter)dependence marks the fortitude, endurance, as well as stoicism of all of us as we are still living with Covid-19 in an ever-changing situation. It celebrates our human interconnectedness, the delicate ecosystem that makes strong supportive societies and our dependence on the earth. We also celebrate the centenaries of events in 1922, which impacted on the foundation of the Irish State.
Last year, we invited writer Theo Dorgan to reflect on this theme of In(ter)dependence in his essay ‘We Have Each Other Still’. It’s a great time for us all to revisit this prescient essay as we look forward to the coming year.
