This time I’m voting
The European elections take place on May 24th, on the same day as local elections and the referendum on divorce.
This year there are 59 candidates running in three constituencies. The breakdown by constituency is as follows:
- Midlands North-West has 17 candidates running for 4 seats
- Dublin has 19 candidates running for 4 seats
- South has 23 candidates running for 5 seats.
Ireland gained two extra MEPs as a result of Brexit. They were allocated to Dublin which previously had 3 and South which previously had 4. The South constituency also gained two extra counties, Laois and Offaly.
Age & Opportunity, in partnership with the Age Friendly Cities and Counties Programme has organised pre-election meetings in each constituency so that we can question candidates on their views and commitments regarding older people.
The Alliance of Age Sector NGOs has adopted a Manifesto (see below) so that we can make our concerns and demands clear to MEPs. We hope that every candidate will agree to sign up to the manifesto, so that we can remind whoever is successfully elected of their commitments to older people.
So what is your constituency?

South consists of: Carlow, Clare, Cork, Kerry, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Offaly, Tipperary, Waterford, Wexford and Wicklow.
